I just added a Links section in the right hand column, at the bottom. I think that these travel blogs are a cut above the usual. Well, the list is there—let the reader judge for himself.
Valentine's
Day is coming up soon. Now, you might think that a solo RV boondocker
would not care much for this particular holiday. And you would be
right. But wait—why must we consider the term, sweetie pie, on such
a narrow level? Why not consider a town or a geographical area as a
valentine?
There aren't many town-area combinations in Arizona that melt the heart, but I'm in one of them now—Ajo. Simply put, this is the best Sonoran scenery and desert boondocking available. (It also has terrible internet access. There aren't a lot of things to do here.)
Consider the desert vegetation. It is lush and varied here, but not so thick that you can't walk through it. Saguaros abound. Here they form a stately, classic columnade, holding up Apollo's temple, the desert sky.
A nearby camper sawed off a dead saguaro, which makes it easy to appreciate the woody skeleton of the saguaro.
With all the rain the succulents are swollen up like green water balloons. If the desert walker sticks them with a knife, would they burst and splatter? Many of the ocotillos are not yet red-tipped. Seldom do you see one as exhuberant as this-- so verde, so estacado, to use Spanish adjectives.
You
don't have to go down to Pipe Organ national monument to see the
eponymous cacti. They abound here, in Ajo. Since
this is regular BLM land you have the freedom to actually enjoy the
land.
