Dogs have some kind of death wish when it comes to cliffs, or maybe it just seems that way to unstable bipeds like us. Both of my dogs love to walk up to the last foot of a cliff and check for game. They're not admiring the scenery.




Sometimes it seems as if they know they've tortured me. Look at this impish face:


Recently, in Salida, CO, I was watching a kayaker practice his stuff in a rapids.


Both of my dogs don't care for water. They'll wade out into water if I do. I started plotting my revenge. What if we went to a nice warm lake and I swam out into deep water. Would they follow? What if I dived beneath the water for as long as I could hold my breath. Would they freak out? Don't tell me this is a cruel prank to play on them--they deserve it for those cliff stunts they pull on me.


I threw out my little poodle's bed last October when I thought he was dead. When he was rescued I never bought another one since I had adopted Coffee Girl and didn't have room for two beds. But the other day I saw a bed with an irresistible price, so I got the little poodle a new bed, but not one for Coffee Girl who is three times the poodle's size. And then look what happens:
