Snowbird, yes Volcker was a rare success story at the Federal Reserve. Maybe it was because there was a bipartisan consensus, after the Carter years, to get serious about killing inflation. But the bad old Seventies have been forgotten by now, mostly. Maybe the country will have to learn the lesson all over again.
